Research Interests

My research program is focussed on the assembly of enveloped animal viruses. We are using molecular genetics (site-directed mutagenesis, complementation, revertant analysis via PCR) to analyze the events required for budding of newly replicated viruses from infected tissue-culture cells.
Our model system employs Sindbis virus, a non-pathogenic RNA enveloped virus whose genome can be manipulated via a cDNA clone and subsequent transfection with transcribed RNA.
